Beach Hopping on the Pacific Coast of Mexico

Day 1 Beach Hopping

After leaving Mazunte, we spent a couple of days checking out a few beaches along the coast.  The first one we went to was La Boquille which was quite possibly the nicest beach I’ve ever been to.  The drive there was insane though.  Johnny drove us through the jungley mountainous “roads” and it was really sketchy. If we were in a smaller car I’m not sure we would have made it there. But the difficult journeys are always worth it, and this beach was idillic. As usual boys will be boys and this trip did take a bad turn for me. Nils gave me an odds on to take a bite from a cactus and of course I couldn’t say no.  Inevitably I lost and had to eat the cactus, which as you can imagine, was not fun.  Safe to say my mouth hurts quite a lot.

Yummy

Unfortunately we had to say goodbye to the girls we had become such good friends with as they were heading back to Puerto Escondido, and we head to the famed hippie town, Zipolite.  Crazy how attached to people you can get after just a week.

We arrived in Zipolite and that evening was an absolute mess. We were banking on the fact there would be atm’s in this town.  Which there were.  What we didn’t anticipate was the power cut that had put them all out of use. So we rocked up to the town with a grand total of 238 pesos to our names. That’s about £9.  Obviously we spent our money wisely and ordered 6 cheese enchiladas which left us with 28 pesos. At least they were yummy. Amazingly the hostel loaned us 500 pesos which was so nice of them. We still hadn’t even paid for the room and were just praying the power would be back on in the morning. We did what any reasonable people would do and went and spent 400 pesos on beer and went to bed hoping for some luck tomorrow.

Day 2

The gods were kind to us and we did indeed manage to get some cash out to square up our debts from the hostel. We set off on another beach hopping day and first went to playa del amore. The love beach.  Turns out it was a nude gay beach so out stay didn’t last very long and we set off to the next beach.

Playa Estacahuite was a cute little beach and we spent all afternoon here. However, it was absolutely tipping it down for about 2 hours so we just had to huddle under and umbrella and play some cards. It was actually a really cute day despite the bad weather.

Once the rain had calmed down, we actually headed back to Puerto Escondido because we needed to be close to the highway back to Oaxaca. It turned out to be a really good idea because we managed to see Ellen and Lina again!
