Puerto Escondido

We arrived in Puerto Escondido after a scary drive from Oaxaca. We pretty much went straight to bed after a beer at the Bonito Escondido hostel, ready for a big day tomorrow …

Day 1 in Puerto Escondido

BEACH DAY!!!  The five of us, plus Puneet (a guy we met at the hostel) spent the day at the beach.  When I tell you the waves here are crazy, they are CRAZY.  I have never seen such big waves in my life.  Just being in the water was so tiring, trying to stay afloat and not get sucked in by the current was so hard, but super fun.  We had such an amazing day and it felt like we all needed a day of doing nothing.  We spent the day playing in the water and relaxing on the beach before watching sunset on the beach. It was magical

Not a bad view eh?

After sunset, we walked back to the hostel for what turned out to be one of the best nights of my life. The activity in the evening was karaoke.  If you know me, you know I absolutely love a bit of karaoke.  It is my absolute favourite night out so it was just the perfect way to spend the evening getting to know other travellers in the hostel.  As planned, we set-off into town to the Techno club.  What was not planned was (look away mum and dad) that we ended up doing, let’s say, other intoxicants. I cannot stress how amazing it is to be having the time of your life, listening to techno music, on a beach, with some amazing people you had only met a couple of days ago.  We ended up staying out until about 6 in the morning and just managed to catch first light before going to bed.  The perfect start to our stay on the coast.

Day 2 in Escondido

After only a few hours of sleep we checked out of the hostel and went straight to breakfast. None of us had been eating that much due to the heat and general business so we were all starving. We ate with Ellen and Lina and the 5 of us just festered on the beach all afternoon trying to recover the lost energy from the night before. After some swimming and relaxing, myself, Nils and Johnny said our goodbyes to the girls and set off to our next town, Mazunte. Thankfully, it was not the last time we would see the girls. My solo trip, had become a trio, and then a quintuple.

Puerto Escondido Part 2

As we were heading back to Oaxaca after our time beach hopping, we thought it would make sense to head back to Puerto for a night as it sits close to the main highway.

We arrived at about 8pm and coincidentally spotted Ellen and Lina inside a pharmacy. It turns out she had just been bitten by a stray dog! Luckily the dog wasn’t rabid and they cleaned her up quickly, so aside from some pierced wounds, she was okay. We all decided to go for dinner and Lina chose a fancy Ceviche restaurant which was amazing. Because they are both on their vacation they like to try the finer things whereas me, Nils and Johnny are happy with the cheapest street food. I can’t complain though, the food was amazing.

As always, one thing led to another and we decided to go out clubbing again. This time it was a pretty mild night out, just to a reggaeton club in a nearby town. We all had early starts for travel days so it wasn’t a crazy wild night out, but it was still super fun. I’ll miss the girls a lot but hopefully will see them in a few weeks time in San Miguel.
